John Mackay Club
The John Mackay Club is the student chapter of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration within the Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno. Our mission is to bridge the gap between students in earth science disciplines and professionals in the mining and geoscience industries.
We provide opportunities for students to gain real-world exposure and career insight through:
- Industry Mixers & Technical Talks – Get to know and learn from experienced professionals across mining engineering, metallurgical engineering, geology, and geological engineering backgrounds.
- Internship & Career Connections – Connect with industry partners for internships, job opportunities, and mentorship.
- Conferences & Events – Participate in national industry events such as the annual MineXchange Conference to expand your network and knowledge base.
At its core, the John Mackay Club is a place to connect, whether you’re exploring a career path, meeting new friends with similar interests, or just hanging out at our socials, field trips, and industry mixers. It’s about building community while discovering where a future in earth sciences can take you.
